"NIWA NIPPON"
In Spokane Washington there is a fabulous Japanese garden which is part of the Manito Park system. This park is one of my favorite places to find inspiration!
This painting was created using transparent watercolors and fluid acrylics. It measures

" SENSORY PERCEPTION"
As and artist, I feel it is important to experiment with subject matter and technique. In this painting I was inspired by one of my students painting in our local park. But, when painting this piece I decided to explore experimenting with sumi ink in combination with traditional watercolor techniques.
The adventureous technique I used is called suminagashi. It is an ancient form of paper marbling that uses sumi ink and creates wonderful black and white patterns and shapes. In this painting I began by first using "suminagashi" on my 140lb watercolor paper, which was followed by pouring a variety of transparent watercolors. My final steps included using fluid acrylics to "tie together" my story about being inspired by Duncan Park at Manito Gardens.
This water media painting measures 22 x 17 and was created on 300lb watercolor paper.
